Pangolin rescued which escaped from Kuldiha Wildlife Sanctuary

A pangolin was rescued by the forest official after local youths alerted of its presence in Daripokhari village under Oupada block. The Forest Guard of Chandipur Wildlife Range Pradeep Kumar Rout said that at about 8 PM last night he was informed that a pangolin was seen in a canal in the village which comes under Dantur Forest Beat house. The pangolin is suspected to have escaped from nearby Kuldiha wildlife sanctuary due to recent floods. As per procedure, the pangolin was handed over to Balasore Divisional Forest Officer (DFO). As per UN Environment and international wildlife organizations, large-scale trafficking of Pangolin is driven by a belief in pangolins’ magical and curative properties and a demand for their meat.
